No matter who you are the MN Renaissance Festival is a space for you to dress up, and be whoever, or whatever, you want to be. “I love dressing up for the ren fest because I love being part of a crowd of joyful weirdos. Diverse fashion is a love letter to each person’s aesthetic, body, gender, and feeling. I feel like I can simultaneously flaunt my uniqueness and blend into a crowd. It’s comforting and exciting to all be different together.” Said festival regular Liz Allen, “Plus I look great in a corset.”

“That’s the whole idea of all of this resale business is that well-made things can last a lifetime and be passed around from person to person. There’s so much new stuff being produced constantly that just gets thrown away within the year. Things that are 50-60 years old are still holding strong because the quality was just so much better. It’s nice to keep those things in circulation.” Says Carrie Martinson.

While traveling in London I was able to visit the Victoria & Albert Museum. The fashion collection at the V&A is the largest collection of clothing in the world. The collection spans five centuries and includes rare 17th and 18th-century gowns. Admission is free, and the collections are divine.
